Travel Photos: Kyoto, Japan

Kyoto: 3 Days in Early April, 2025

We spent 3 days in Kyoto and the city is absolutely stunning. This is a place I definitely want to visit again and spend more time exploring. Here are some photos we took. You can right click each picture and open it in a new tab to view more clearly.

Day 1: We arrived at Kyoto Station from Osaka in the afternoon. After checking into our hotel, we headed to Gion, the famous geisha district. We did see a Maiko on one of the side streets. Out of respect, we didn't take any photos.

Day 2: We spent the morning at Fushimi Inari and the afternoon at Kiyomizudera.

The area surrounding Kiyomizudera Temple is easily one of the most beautiful, if not the most, sites I've ever visited. One thing I regretted not doing was to wait in line for a ticket and get inside of the main temple as well as the famous site behind it. We did it at Osaka Castle and the inside was disappointing; the castle and its surrounding area were beautiful but the inside was a museum overcrowded with tourists. Because of that, I decided against going inside the main temple hall, which was a big mistake. I only realized it when reading more about the place after the visit; I should've done the research beforehand. This is now on my must-do list next time I visit Japan.

Day 3: We walked along the Kinukake-no-Michi Road and visited 3 temples, Kinkakuji Temple (the Golden Pavilion), Ryoanji Temple (houses Japan's most famous rock garden), and Ninnaji Temple (beautiful and famous for late-blooming cherry blossoms; not as crowded as the other two and visitors were mostly Japanese). The road was calm, quiet, and beautiful the entire way, in stark contrast to the hecticness and crowdedness we experienced in the first two days.
